Why do we crate our puppies?
If dog crates were designed to look like little dog houses, it might be easier to convince people that they’re — not — cages! First, let’s talk about what a crate really is and how they can improve your relationship with your dog.Long ago, when dogs were still wild animals, they often slept in dens – shallow holes they dug in the ground hidden away in places where they felt safe from predators. These were small, dark places, just big enough to turn around in and to lie down comfortably.
Even after centuries of selective breeding and living in people’s homes, dogs still retain some of their ancient instincts. One of these instincts is the desire to have a den – a small, cozy place of their very own where they can feel safe and secure.
A “crate” is just a modern version of a den. In other words, it’s a dog house within your house. Just as you enjoy having your own room where you can go for peace and privacy, your dog likes having his own room, too!
What can I do to ease my puppy
Puppies are still young and can be easily over-stimulated. The most important thing to remember in the first few days is to make sure your new puppy has access to plenty of water, and that it is eating well. Ensure the dog only plays a limited amount of time with plenty of crate time for rest.

In regards to Rodent control, what can I expect?
Cats were first domesticated by the Egyptians to replace ferrets, which were the first animal domesticated for rodent control. Feral cats (today’s barn cats, or cats that survive by hunting for their food) are not as common as they were a generation ago, and as a result we have a bigger rodent problem than a few decades ago.Does the quality of food make a big difference?Cats are carnivores, and they won’t stop eating until they get enough meat into their digestive systems. Cheaper cat foods have grains and other things that cat’s don’t digest well, and what this means is that they’re actually more expensive because the cat will eat more of this food in order to get enough meat into its system. This cheap diet also makes the litter box a lot stinkier, and it affects the cat’s health – as someone who spends a lot of time with cats, I can just look at a cat’s coat and tell you if it’s eating well or not – well fed cats have a silky, shiny coat that only comes from eating the right kind of food.
What can you expect from your cat?
Unlike dogs, which are pack animals, cats are solitary hunters, and this gives them very different personalities. I tell my customers that if they want constant devotion, then they want a dog. But if they want another personality in the house, and one that doesn’t need a lot of care and attention, then a kitten is the way to go.
It’s hard to rival the beauty of the bird. And nothing can help bring the outside indoors like an occasional tween and chirp, or the joy of teaching your companion to talk. Is a flight-trimmed bird is a safe bird?
Almost all of the injuries pet birds suffer are a result of their flight instinct being trigged and the damage they cause themselves when their flight feathers are not sufficiently trimmed. For this reason, we highly recommend that flight feather on all pet birds be trimmed. It just makes them safer.
What are Parakeets?
Parakeets are a small parrot. They are a social flock animal, enjoy the company of people, and are great with kids.
What can you tell me about Canaries?
Canaries, prized for their beautiful song and lovely colors, are a type of finch, and are soft billed. Although males are most often the singers, occasionally a hen will do a little singing. Except under rare circumstances, plumage is not an indication of gender; generally, if the bird sings it is considered a male, or singer; if it merely “tweets” and “peeps” it’s considered a female, or hen.

What can you tell me about Vivariums?
Having a reptile as a pet has gone through a transformation in the last decade as the trend toward vivariums has taken hold. Vivariums are environments where the focus is less on a single pet and more on the environment shared by several pets and plants. Typical residents are anoles, frogs, a Carolina chameleon, and house geckos.
How is caring for a reptile different from caring for other pets?
Probably the most important difference in caring for a reptile is that you provide a heater to makes sure your pet reptile has a way to control its body temperature. The correct heater for your reptile will help your pet maintain its optimal body temperature, so that it can maintain its normal metabolic activity.

How long do fish live?
Goldfish (which are really a fish called “Comets”) can live up to 20 years. The number one cause of shortened lives is, of course, over-feeding. Fish like to eat small amounts frequently, so the most common mistake is to provide too much food all at once.
What are your thoughts on fish as a hobby?
Having an aquarium with fish didn’t really come into fashion until after World War II. A lot of what we know today about keeping fish was developed here in Western New York as a result of the research done on the Niagara Falls aquarium, the world’s first inland aquarium.
When I bought my first aquarium when I was 10 years old, my father was horrified at the cost – $100. Today you can buy an aquarium that size for the same price, but with a much better filter, heating system, etc. The industry has come a long way.
Having an aquarium is a great way to teach responsibility to kids. They learn the importance of regular feeding, maintenance, and looking out for something else, and it’s very rewarding. And having a beautiful fish tank around is just calming.
What should I do to prepare the water in my aquarium?
Tap water in our area contains chlorine and often has a pH that can put a strain on freshwater fish. For that reason, we highly recommend using a water conditioner and adding it prior to inserting your first into their aquarium environment. In addition to a conditioner, a heater to maintain a consistent, correct water temperature is vital to the health of freshwater fish.
